Good production on Mexican blackberries despite weather events

It has been a good season for blackberries. "Currently they are coming from Mexico. There have been some weather events related to El Nino, but the production and quality of blackberries have been performing well despite this," says Sarah Quackenbush, Sales Manager for North Bay Produce, a coop made up of 30 grower-owners from North, Central, and South America.

Quackenbush says blackberry consumption should grow thanks to better-eating varieties, including the Erandy variety, coming into commercial production.

Meanwhile, the demand for blackberries has been very good over the last few weeks. "We anticipate that the consumption of blackberries will continue to grow thanks to the better eating varieties coming into commercial production," says Quackenbush. "We at North Bay Produce are especially excited about the Erandy and Erandira varieties which offer better shelf life, appearance, and eating experience than the traditional blackberry varieties in Mexico."

The Erandy variety in the coop's Reserve label topseal packs will in fact be on display at the upcoming 2024 CPMA Convention + Trade Show, which will be held in Vancouver, Canada April 23-25. "We look forward to seeing folks at the show and giving them another opportunity to see and taste this new variety," she says.

At North Bay Produce's booth, #1419, it will also display its Reserve label blueberries, which Quackenbush says are eating very well, as well as the full line of its products.
