Agrofest 2025 launches to boost Peru’s agriculture

The 2025 edition of Agrofest, Peru's key agricultural sector event, was launched, aiming to reposition national agriculture as a driver of sustainable development, according to Gabriel Amaro, president of the Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru (AGAP).

Amaro highlighted the need for this focus, noting projections that Peru's GDP will grow less than 3% in 2025, below the government's 4% target, due to a global trade war sparked by U.S. tariffs. He stated, "This serious situation reflects real challenges that we must face together, with responsibility and proposals, but urgently. Why? Because the employment and well-being of Peruvians are at stake. Less than 5% does not generate enough employment, increasing unemployment, poverty, and informality," during Agrofest 2025's launch.

He emphasized the importance of regulatory frameworks that encourage private investment and sector expansion, particularly in agriculture. In this context, Agrofest is seen as a platform for integration and global connectivity for Peru. Amaro stated, "At AGAP, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening Peruvian agriculture through Agrofest 2025, a space for meeting, knowledge, new trends, proposals, challenges, innovation, networking, and business roundtables that will bring together producers, entrepreneurs, small producers, agricultural exporters, associations, unions, universities, suppliers of goods and services, and authorities from international organizations."

Angel Manero, Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, noted the event's importance for small businesses, providing a cost-effective opportunity to engage with the global production chain. He remarked, "Small businesses and producers sometimes don't have enough money to attend large international fairs. So, this event allows us to hold a major world fair in Peru, lowering costs for them. That's why we're celebrating this opportunity."

The launch, held at Promperú's headquarters, included officials like Federico Tong Hurtado, president of the Peruvian Sports Institute, and Edal Luján Olivares, director of Export Promotion at Promperú.

Agrofest 2025 will feature the Peruvian Agricultural Congress, International Agricultural University Congress, the fourth Summit of Agrarian Public Policies, and a major business roundtable with over 165 meetings. The AGAP Sustainability Award will honor organizations excelling in social inclusion, technological innovation, and environmental stewardship. The event will address themes of agricultural innovation, market trends, sustainability, and public policy, engaging the entire value chain from small farmers to large corporations.

Amaro concluded, "With the support of our strategic allies and the joint efforts of the public and private sectors, Agrofest reaffirms its role as a platform for integration, projection, and development for Peruvian agriculture. Agrofest is not just an agricultural event; it's a platform for action, proposals, and networking. A commitment to a more competitive, modern, and sustainable agriculture, an agriculture that competes globally as the best in the world and that supplies the domestic market with the best of its products."
