AU: Packing job has bags of appeal
General manager Brent Chambers said the business was expanding and locals were set to benefit.
"We have 38 teenagers on our books who have applied to work in the plant in the school break," Mr Chambers said.
Mundubbera Year 10 students and Gayndah Year 12s as well as teens from private schools and uni students home for the holidays are all hoping for work, he said.
Up to 90 people work in the shed at the height of the citrus season, down to 20 in the off season.
CFP has started packing grapes this week and will pack 190,000 boxes in the next few weeks along with 80,000 trays of mangoes by the end of January.
Mundubbera teenager Tully Wilson said he is saving to go to play soccer in Germany.
"Working here is great and I get to save some cash for my trip," Tully said. "I am packing lemons today and I am looking forward to the grapes and mangoes," he said.
Grapes packed at CFP are placed in 1kg plastic bags, boxed in the paddock, palletised in the shed, cooled, then sent straight to Aldi the same day.
