In a recent update provided by the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Service (Rosselkhoznadzor), Russia witnessed a growth in fruit and berry imports by the end of 2024. The volume of berries imported into the country reached 517,900 metric tons. Concurrently, fruit deliveries to Russia experienced a 2.4% increase, culminating in nearly 6.1 million metric tons.
The report highlighted a continuous strength in citrus fruit imports, which saw a 2.6% annual increase to 1.9 million metric tons. A notable rise was observed from Egypt, which escalated its citrus deliveries to Russia by 62%, jumping from 307,700 metric tons in 2023 to 498,600 metric tons in 2024. Despite these changes, banana imports remained stable, with approximately 1.4 million metric tons imported, predominantly from Ecuador, which accounted for 1.3 million metric tons of the total.
Additionally, the importation of pome fruits, including apples and pears, rose by 2.6% to 627,400 metric tons. The stone fruit category, encompassing peaches, plums, and sour cherries, saw a 3.9% increase in imports, reaching 722,600 metric tons. Moreover, grape imports experienced a significant surge, with a 12.3% year-on-year increase to 424,200 metric tons.
These statistics reflect the evolving landscape of fruit imports into Russia, marking trends that high-tech greenhouse growers and the broader agricultural sector may find relevant for their operations and market analysis.
