Mexican avocado exporters do not see prices match up this Super Bowl

Although avocado exports from Mexico to the world in January and February increase each year to mainly meet the demand for guacamole due to the US Super Bowl, prices did not help Mexican producers this year.

The total exported from January to February 2023 totaled 304,000 tons, which includes the weeks in which shipments increased to meet the demand for fruit for guacamole, but only 462 million dollars were received.

However, in In the first two months of 2022, 201,000 tons were shipped and for that amount, 600 million dollars were received. In other words, prices failed to score a touchdown, because despite the fact that avocado exports in 2023 rose 51%, in volume, its price fell 23% compared to 2022.

According to estimates, considering the amounts of avocado exports and the income generated in those two months, in the first two months of 2022, 2,985 dollars were received for each ton, while in 2023 the ton was purchased on average for 1,519 dollars.
