Paper packaging heading in the right direction according to Egyptian packaging manufacturer

“We plant a single tree with every deal that we make with a client”

Mohamed Ali, owner and founder of Egyptian packer Fresh Deal, states that the consensus on paper packaging is very positive: “The paper packaging still has a good reputation. Nowadays a lot of large supermarket chains and retailers around the world demand paper packaging instead of plastic, as many countries have put bans on single-use plastics. For example; paper grape packaging is the new trend and we also manufacture a kind of label, that is biodegradable.”

Egypt itself is also moving towards a system where plastic is discouraged, Ali explains. “Here in Egypt, the government has placed many restrictions on the use of plastic bags, especially in the cities of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Because of this, paper bags have become the environmentally friendly alternative. Right now, we cooperate with one of the huge strawberry exporters in Egypt to provide them biodegradable boxes which they export to Mauritius.”

As the focus of Fresh Deal’s packaging is on sustainability, the company decided to go the extra mile to help the planet. Ali states they now plant a tree with every order that comes in: “We plant a single tree with every deal that we make with a client. This means by doing business with us, you’re not only going for eco-green sustainable friendly packaging, but you will also help our planet by providing a tree with every order. We cooperate with Egyptian environmental institutions, they will plant a tree with every purchase that is done at FreshDeal. We offer this as a way of compensating for the materials used and CO2 emission created when producing our packaging.”

Overall, Ali feels that the packaging sector is heading towards the right direction. “The packaging market is a market which many other markets depend upon. That is to say that without packaging, many products that we use every day would never make it into stores. The packaging market is currently growing and is expected to continue doing so in the coming months and years. This is true both for in-store packaging and packaging for delivery and it is also true across industries. Luxury packaging is also seeing a surge,” he concludes.
