France: Jacob, a shipper of fruit and vegetables in Paimpol, changes hands

Situated in Paimpol (Côtes d’Armor) for the past 60 years, the company Jacob, exporter and shipper of fruit and vegetables in France and Europe, has just been bought out. Florent Doussal is now the managing director of the company, which was previously managed by Louis and Anne Jacob.

Main exporter and shipper of fruit and vegetables in Brittany, the family business (25 employees) has just been bought out by Laurent Rio, former manager of Bio Armor in Plaintel, through its investment company, Caroual Finances, based in Rennes. “Jacob is an operator that is unanimously recognized by all mass retailers for its responsiveness and expertise,” explains Florent Doussal, who has been appointed managing director and partner in the capital. “The company has developed a unique know-how in sourcing and marketing tomatoes, cauliflowers, early and organic vegetables.”

Founded in 1960 by Joseph Jacob in Lanmodez, the company has been located in the packing area of Paimpol since 1978, near the auction market, the daily compass for Breton fruit and vegetable prices. “It brings great personal satisfaction to entrust the future of Jacob to entrepreneurs who share our values and our vision of the profession,” explains Louis Jacob, son of the founder and in charge of the company since 1988. Through their career, Laurent Rio and Florent Doussal have acquired a perfect knowledge of the farming world, of the respect for the land, and of the men and women who, through their work in the vegetable production sector, guarantee quality supplies.”

Louis Jacob and his sister Anne Jacob, who stays in charge of upstream and logistics, have been appointed to the function of deputy general manager, accompanying the buyers on this new adventure. “Their respective experience is an essential element for the success of such a project. It will help consolidate the existing bases, rationalize certain processes and develop new markets and ranges of fruit and vegetables. The entire Jacob team is strengthened, as well as our packaging branch Tradi Fresh and our historic collaboration with Prince de Bretagne, the collective brand of Breton producers.”
