TechNature sorting machines are processing an increasing quantity of Brussels sprouts. This young Dutch company crossed into neighboring countries with these machines within two years. Brussels sprout growers use the Sproutcam in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Poland, and Scotland. That is according to a report in the Dutch newspaper, the AD.
The SproutCam has cameras that photograph each Brussels sprout 16 times. This provides a complete view of the vegetables. The machine can sort 120 sprouts/second. If the SproutCam detects a bad sprout, it uses an air pulse to get rid of it. Growers devised the idea for the machine. And TechNature developed and marketed it. "Two years ago, we didn't yet have machines for these sprouts. We've sold 28 of them already. So, we've gained about a 50% market share in the Netherlands," says Wouter Bac, the company's director.
