Broom Group continues its expansion in The Netherlands

As of may 1, 2020 Chilean based Broom Group has acquired the cold-storage and distribution facilities of Saphir, Ridderkerk in The Netherlands. The company will be renamed Broom Frio, Ridderkerk, operating independently from it previous owners.

In February Broom Group announced the acquisition of the majority of shares in B&L Fruitlogistics BV., a long-time operator within the fruit logistics, storage and distribution operations in Barendrecht and daily managed by Brian Bakker, also being the company’s minority share-holder.

Group CEO, Andres Nunez Sorensen comments that this expansion should be seen as a further extension of our end to end fruit logistics services, encompassing cold-storage and packing facilities in origin countries, 3pl services and trucking, all in an effort, to bring producers, distributors and retailers closer to each other, using the complete fruit logistics platform offered by the Group.

Seller of the facility is the Jupiter Group, UK. Founder-Partner, Mark Tweedle comments that he is pleased with the sale and the Broom Group take-over of the operation, which will allow Jupiter to focus on its core business, as a grower, importer and distributor of fresh produce world-wide, simultaneously maintaining a first-class distribution service operation in the hands of its number one global logistics service provider, LCL.

Broom Logistics Europe and Africa MD, Dawie Kok adds that the acquisition of Saphir will enable us as a Group, to further add value to our customers both in origin and in Europe, by also adding service components like re-packing, labelling, netting and the likes, all with a vision of having as few operators involved from farm through to the shelf of the retailer. As independent operations, Broom Frio, Ridderkerk and B&L, Barendrecht will be managed daily by Brian Bakker, who sees an increased need for storage and value-add services in the area, supporting the ever increasing volumes of fresh produce flowing into Europe via the Dutch and Belgian ports and terminals.

Sharon Kucharek, Commercial Manager of LCL, The Netherlands welcomes the acquisition which will enable LCL to offer more door-to-door services to existing as well as new clients, from an enlarged storage and distribution facility.

Broom Frio, Ridderkerk is a further proof of the strategy, Broom Group has laid out since 3 years ago, catering for more origin and destination services and facilities for fresh produce. Our next expansion will take place in Peru later this year. In the meantime we welcome the former staff of Saphir into the Broom Group.
