Jacobs, Malcolm & Burtt (JMB) said it intends to continue its growth in the asparagus and packaged sweet corn categories with the addition of Donald Alford to its sales team. Donald brings 30 years of experience in the produce industry and extensive customer relations experience to the company.
"We are very excited to bring Donald aboard, and know that he will make an immediate impact on our day-to-day operations," says Craig Rolandelli, President of JMB. "Together with Chris Brazeel, our long-time salesman, Donald will give JMB the needed sales support and structure to enable us to move forward with our growth plans for both Mexican and California asparagus as well as our packaged sweet corn."
Donald began his career in produce at Sandstone Marketing, which specialized in mix melons as well as honeydews and cantaloupes. From there, he went to ATB in both Turlock and Brawley, CA. After his time at ATB, Donald ran the Sales Department at Sahara in Brawley, CA, which was a large grower/packer/shipper of asparagus, melons, artichokes, celery, green onions, as well as numerous Mexican wet vegetable crops. Donald has spent the last 16 years as the Sales Manager at Altar Produce, dealing mostly with asparagus, as well as green onions and wet vegetables.
JMB has been in business since 1888 and is the largest shipper of California asparagus. The company said its California growers have invested in 150+ new acres of asparagus, as well as over $1 million in new automated packing equipment to reduce packing costs.
JMB ships Mexican asparagus year round, and California asparagus March - May. Packaged sweet corn offerings are available year round out of Mexico and California. JMB said its sweet corn is fully husked, trimmed, and ready to be cooked straight from the package. The company offers Mexican sweet corn December - March; and California grown sweet corn April - November, including Brentwood, CA sweet corn during the summer months.
