Sculpture of avocado on toast worth $1 million

It might have become Australia’s national dish, avocado toast and salad.
Now it is for sale for the fabulous price of $1,041,689.

The sculpture, titled Avocado Toast: the reality sandwich by artists Julia and Ken Yonetani, has been announced as a finalist for the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, but it’s the price tag that really has people talking. The Yonetanis stated that the meaning behind the work is all about questioning the worth of objects.

“The artists are inviting us to consider what is the actual worth of a house or a sculpture? When does the price of something become so unobtainable it seems unreal and mere speculation?” the description on the release for the Prize reads, according to vogue.com.au.

Avocado Toast: the reality sandwich is available to view during the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize finalists at Woollahra Council, from October 20 until November 11.
