Spain: Agroponiente expects its organic production to increase by 20%

Grupo Agroponiente has held its usual annual meeting with organic producers in order to take stock of the campaign and announce some forecasts for the next. There have also been training talks on issues related to this sector, which is growing constantly and recording steady increases in the demand in both Europe and the world.

The meeting was attended by the vice president of Grupo Agroponiente, Antonio Escobar, and was inaugurated by the Procurement director, Antonio Algarra, who highlighted the importance that organic production has been gaining with each campaign.

Next, Diego Oller, head for organic production at Grupo Agroponiente, made a balance of the 2017/2018 campaign and gave some forecasts for 2018/2019. According to the data offered by Oller, a total of 13 million kilos of organic products have been marketed by the company over the last twelve months. Cucumbers are the most important product, with 4.7 million, followed by watermelons, with 3 million, and peppers, also close to this last figure. According to the studies cited by the company, the forecast for the next campaign is a 20% growth, which means continuing the trend of recent years.

Diego Oller said that "our main objective is to keep growing in an orderly manner and maintain our commitment to meeting the needs of both customers and producers all year round. The company has been carrying out a massive relocation of the production, establishing itself in different production areas, which makes it possible to supply products and services throughout the year and, therefore, strengthen relations with its customers. Furthermore, we work very hard to try supplying what the market demands, which makes us more productive and competitive."
