REWE Group has seven new warehouses planned for 2025

The REWE Group is planning a far-reaching expansion of its logistics capacities by 2025. This was announced by Frank Wiemer, member of the REWE Group Executive Board responsible for logistics, in Cologne. "The dynamic growth of our grocery business requires additional warehouses throughout Germany," said Wiemer. "Without a new logistics strategy, we would reach our limits in the medium term. This would negatively affect our cost structures as well as the quality of the logistics services for our markets. That is why the Executive Board and the Supervisory Boards of the REWE Group are in agreement that we will initially invest around 600 million over the next four years."

In total, the construction of seven new logistics centers is planned over the next eight years, which will be needed primarily for REWE's supermarket business. "At the same time, we are continuing to systematically drive the automation of our logistics," says Wiemer. "With our logistics center in Neu-Isenburg, we have gained extensive experience with automation. On this basis, we can now tackle a targeted degree of automation of the new warehouses. In doing so, we will also create the conditions for a later use of robots where this becomes necessary.”

Part of the expansion of the REWE logistics structures are the warehouse projects in Henstedt-Ulzburg (Northern Region) and Wölfersheim (Central Region) as well as in Magdeburg. In Magdeburg, a new national central warehouse for the dry goods range is to be built. With the active support of the state capital Magdeburg, planning for the development of a property in the industrial and logistics center Magdeburg Rothensee has begun.

By connecting these three warehouses alone, around 700 new jobs will be created at REWE Logistik. These will be designed according to the latest trends in the field of ergonomics and occupational safety.
