"Hopefully 2018 will be a better year for avocados that 2017. South Africa expects an increase of 35% in Greenskins as well as Hass. Peru estimates 10% more Hass and somewhat fewer Fuerte than last year. These two countries traditionally play an important role in the avocado market. There are, however, a number of other new avocado countries such as Colombia. In 2017, Colombia was responsible for 4.33% of the worldwide avocado supply. October, November and December are the best months for Colombian Hass avocados and after a short break, also April, May and June. Thanks to their good location and climate, Colombia promises to keep up the growth of their avocado supply", says the Dutch importer.
"Besides the United States, the largest sales countries for avocados are France, Great Britain and the Netherlands, the latter because because of its important logistical role. Spain is also a major buyer due to its significant logistical function for South American exporters and products", says Elena. She does not expect the market to reach its saturation point anytime soon. "The avocado market keeps growing, so for now, I do not expect a stagnation in demand."
