US(AL): Shipt adds local supermarket chain to Birmingham network

Birmingham has become the first Shipt market where its users can order groceries from different stores, as formerly the grocery delivery service was working exclusively with Publix.

Birmingham users will now be able to have products picked up and delivered from Western Market.

"Growing up in Birmingham, I have always viewed Western as one of the most reliable and enduring brands in the city,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. "They are known throughout the community for providing a wide variety of premium groceries and personable service."

The service will launch on May 18, and users who sign up before the launch will receive $20 in free groceries.

Shipt started in late 2014 and currently has a presence in 24 cities. In those other markets, Shipt shoppers deliver groceries from Kroger, Harris Teeter and Fry's Food Stores.

“We’ve been closely watching Shipt since they launched in our hometown of Birmingham over a year ago, and could not be happier for the team as they continue to expand across the country and create jobs in the local community,” said Ken Hubbard, CEO and owner of Western Market. “We are thrilled to partner with Shipt because we know that the relationship will make our customers’ lives easier.”
