"Ron Jongejan: "Jaguacy Brazil planting 200 more hectares over next few years"

First Brazilian Hass avocados arrived

Jaguacy Brazil received the first containers of Hass avocados of the season 2016 today. The first boxes were received at Cool Control in Maasdijk and transported on to travel to various destinations. "We will receive around 23 containers per week in Europe from April to the second week in May. After this we will switch to a smaller volume until week 35. The expectation is that we will have a total of 280 containers for Europe this season," says Ron Jongejan.

"We have the sizes 12-14-16-18-20-22-24 in 4 kg and 24-26-30-32 in 10 kg. The demand is very good this period and will remain good for now. We also expect to be able to get a good price for the avocados this year," says Ron. "With a fat content of 23 and more the avocados can be ripened well and are very tasty. We can offer the customer everything in nets of 1kg/800g to dishes in twos and fours and ready to eat. This all takes place at Cool Control."

Jaguacy Brazil will plant an additional 200 hectares over the coming years to be able to meet the rising demand. "At the moment we have packaging lines in Brazil that can handle 40 containers per week and are investing a lot in the quality of the product to be able to meet all of the customers' wishes. We also have the first 35 hectares of organic avocados in the ground, so these will take around three years to arrive in Europe," concludes Ron. Jaguacy Brazil has all certificates such as Grasp, GlobalGAP, BRC, BSCI. Residue analysis are carried out by Groen Agro Control.
