Record profit for Avocado producer Calavo Growers

Calavo Growers, an American avocado producer, did good business in the first quarter of this year. The company recently presented its quarterly figures, which show record results. Sales increased from 194.8 million dollars last year to 204.6 million dollars this year. The net profit was 19.8 percent higher compared to the first quarter of 2015, reaching 6.3 million dollars.

"Calavo has started the year in good shape, with improvements in a number of key areas," comments CEO Lee E. Cole on the results. "I believe Calavo's first quarter results pave the way for what I predict could be a record year."

The company, which focuses its business on avocados, but is also active with other products, has registered nothing but growth over the past 13 quarters. Calavo is growing together with the avocado market. According to forecasts, the fruit's consumption this year will amount to 2.5 million pounds (1.13 million kilos). Just during the last Super Bowl Sunday, an estimated 139 million pounds of avocados were consumed, a sharp increase from the 99 million pounds of two years earlier.

"The avocado harvest this year is bigger, both in California and in Mexico. We are in a good position to market this increased volume, as well as to pack it, thanks to our new packing station in Guzman, Mexico." Avocados from Guzman are intended for international markets, including Japan, China, other parts of Asia and Europe.
