High supply and low demand cauliflower

The cauliflower market is under pressure, because of the high increase in crops for 2 weeks. The temperatures are higher than normal, which accelerated the maturation of the cauliflower.

"This high level of supply finds a low level of demand, as the consumption is better when the weather is colder," explains Gaëlle Juton from Prince de Bretagne. "Furthermore, our high supply is in competition with the end of crops in countries, who usually buy our products (mainly Germany). On top of that there is also competition with the beginning of the season in Italy and Spain."

The consequence is low prices between 3 and 4 Euro for 6 heads, including packaging. "We hope that a current cold wave would help to change the market conditions and increase the consumption." Now autumnal crops in Europe are at the end of harvesting but they are still able to supply their domestic market. "We are ready to increase our exportations as soon as these areas are finished."
