Socomo (Modern Retail Association specialised in fruits and vegetables), a subsidiary of Carrefour, has been made available to horticultural suppliers in order to help them sell their products overseas.
The idea is for this company to become "a springboard" for suppliers "who are starting to export," said Carrefour Spain's national director for fresh produce, Ángel Monreal, in the context of the 17th Congress of the Association of Large Consumption Companies (Aecoc).
It was also stated that most of Socomo's Spanish exports correspond to Carrefour stores, although a small share, about 5%, are the result of agreements with distributors for the sale of fresh Spanish products, reports Efe.
Such agreements already exist in Arab and African countries, but can be reached anywhere where Spanish products "are popular," he points out.
