Mexico: Avocado production in Jalisco increases

With an annual output of 100,000 tons and more than 1,200 producers, especially in the Southern-Southeast areas, the cultivation of avocados in Jalisco becomes more important every year.

The President of the Avocado Product System, Ignacio González Flores, reports that currently rural producers from 34 municipalities from Jalisco have joined the activity, as it is more profitable than other crops.

"Traditional crops were corn, fodder, and even sugarcane, which have had little value, but the avocado is still a crop that begins to generate more profits."

He said that currently there were approximately 13,000 hectares of avocado crops in Jalisco.
