As of 2nd April 2013, the Sicilian Eco Farm srl company started its melon campaign, placing 20 to 40 tons of produce in mass retailing. The Rotary variety will be available during April, which has a very good quality thanks to its sugar content (Brix level higher than 16), compactness, net and size (grade between 5 and 6).
As Carmelo Stagnitto, head of production, explains: "We are hoping for an increase in demand. We are confident that consumers appreciate our work, which respects the principles of the chain, and that they won't buy produce without phytosanitary protections."
During a recent visit to the fields, a rather unusual aspect has emerged. "Rotary net melons have benefited from the atmospheric disturbances of the last few days and from the recent sunny days. In fact, the characteristics we have detected make us feel optimistic both as regards quality and quantity (there are various fruits per plant)."
