Organic grape farm supplies sports facilities for South-African farm workers

On Saturday 20 October, organic grape farm Carpe Diem in South-Africa inaugurated a brand new grassy soccer field for its employees. A tournament was held with 8 teams from all over the area, to celebrate the occasion. The primary sponsor of the tournament was organic trader Eosta BV, who sells the organic grapes of Carpe Diem in Europe under the Nature & More "trace & tell" trademark. The employees were very pleased with the new soccer field, especially when a Carpe Diem soccer team won the tournament at the end of the day!

No less than 8 teams of in total 120 players gathered on the sunny spring morning of October 20 in Upington, South Africa, to celebrate the inauguration of the new soccer field of Carpe Diem. The Carpe Diem farm had its first and second team participating in the tournament, and several other (conventional) farms in the area sent in teams as well. There was food and free facilities for everyone to enjoy, thanks to sponsors such as Nature & More. The cheerleaders danced in African style and the games began. At the end of the day, it was the organic team nr 2. of Carpe Diem that won the tournament and took home the first prize!

Carpe Diem is a 200 hectare farm that produces organic table grapes, raisins and pecan nuts. The farm is located near the town of Upington in the Orange River area of the Northern Cape, South Africa. It's owned and run by young farmer Gog van der Colff (34), who took over the farm from his father and converted to organic farming in 2006. In 2011, Van der Colff was elected "Young farmer of the year" in South-Africa for combining business success with ecological and social sustainability. He is acclaimed for taking good care of coloured, black and white employees alike. More information can be found at www.naturandmore.com with code 220.

Carpe Diem's grapes will be available in Europe through Nature & More from November until the second week of January.
