"Spain: "Current tomato prices are reasonable"

The tomato market is stable in terms of prices. "Right now the prices are quite reasonable, but it is also true that we have not yet started and we still do not have significant amounts in all growing areas. Compared to previous years, the prices are reasonable," says Max Bach, from Hortiberia.

Located in Cartagena, Murcia, the Hortiberia Group is a company dedicated to the sale in the domestic market and the export, among other things, of tomatoes of all varieties and garments, grown in greenhouses and under meshes.
Max tells us, heavy rains in Almeria and Murcia have not affected the tomato crop significantly.

It seems that Spanish tomatoes are gaining more fame and recognition for their quality, variety and taste.
"In the '90s, Dutch tomatoes had a bad image primarily for their flavor, which Spain took advantage of to offer their quality tomatoes during the spring and summer as well. Anyway, the Netherlands has improved a lot and has invested in new varieties. At the same time, Poland also offers very good tomatoes," explains Max.
Hortiberia, besides the usual way of sending their products, sends containers that go out mainly from Valencia to distant destinations, for supermarkets, wholesalers and catering services.
"Today, major competitors are, during the winter, Morocco and Turkey, often at prices far lower than those of Spanish Products."
Hortiberia exports their tomatoes under their own brand "Hortiberia", producer brand and white brand according to customer needs.
