Spain: Cooperation in the garlic sector

The chairman of the Caja Rural foundation in Cuenca, Spain, Carlos de la Sierra, together with Agustín Ortiz, chairman of the cooperation San Isidro El Santo de Las Pedroñeras, has signed an agreement to collaborate in a new laboratory. Both parties have expressed their contentment with the deal, that will devote much of its running time to the further cultivation of purple garlic.

The laboratory will be mostly devoted to researching the garlic variety. One of its aims is to develop a seed that is free of viruses.

GlobalCaja’s Cuenca foundation, Caja Rural, will further use the four-year deal to modernise the cooperative network of Castilla-La Mancha, to aid the agricultural community and to promote the development of new innovations and technologies in the sector.

Both parties will work together extensively to reach these goals.
