Exsa Europe start with Egyptian grape varieties

At Exsa Europe the first shipments of the new grape varieties Arra10 and Arra11 have arrived. "Innovation is important in our organisation. Both from South Africa and Egypt and other production areas as well our growers are busy with the development of new varieties. However, we notice that often these are islands, about which the growers have their own vision. It is our job to streamline these new initiatives, so that there is a better continuity with these new varieties in the seasons" Eddy Kreukniet says.

The first arrivals are very satisfactory and "we therefore look forward to the further development of this and other varieties during the coming season. The grapes are also packed under house mark EXSA. This is a success for the second successive year. Our clients recognise the trusted quality, which we also supply from South Africa and that creates confidence in the brand and finally a better price for our growers" Eddy continues.

According to the distributor the grape market is not doing too well. "When the Egyptian grape season started the market was empty, because the early varieties were late. The next varieties were in time with the result of a market, which was glutted. Especially the sale of white grapes was not easy the last few weeks. The supply of red grapes was a lot smaller and those sales were a lot better."

"In the meantime the season of Egyptian white grapes is almost over and slowly some Spanish product comes onto the market. There is also still a remainder from Morocco and at the end of the month the Italian season starts again" Eddy concludes. "This week especially sales of white grapes will go well, but I expect sales of red grapes to remain on the level."
