Giovanni Gullino: “My optimism about kiwi pricing has partially evaporated”
In a previous interview, Gullino hoped the kiwi price, after a fall by 20% on the previous campaign, would rise by 4-5% by the end of March.
"Unfortunately", now Gullino observes "as far as the European market is concerned, prices have not increased apart from some gauge. In the overseas market, instead, the price rise was evident, but export has become rarer and rarer. This is also due to the relationship between the transport period and condition of the product. After 5-months of refrigerated storage, not all the batches can travel long distances. In the end my optimism has partially evaporated".
Gullino company packs and exports about 35,000 tons of kiwi every year. The main sales markets are Spain, England, Brazil, India, North America, Far East, Middle East and others.
