"The further processing of new ginger in 2016 has just started and, judging from the current situation, the market is stable. Compared to the same period in 2015, the ginger export price has gone up from around 500-600 USD to over 1000 USD per ton," says Mr. Jason from Anqiu Tailai Foods.
Market prospects undetermined
"The prospects people see in the ginger market are polarised in this kind of situation. Many companies start to harvest and build up stock on a large scale. They try to further drive up the price artificially. Some people have a different view. Because 2016 wasn't a bad year for ginger, there may have been a reduction of 10% in the production, but the demand has remained stable."
Export volumes unclear
"We have just started the preparations for the processing of the new ginger, so the situation isn't clear. If we want to make a rough estimation of the export amounts, we will have to wait until the ginger starts to be shipped in mid-December. Because the ginger market has quite a few unstable factors, it is hard to say in what direction the market will develop. I personally believe that the price won't go up much further."
Organic ginger brings business
"Concerning the overseas markets, the peak period for the demand in ginger is from December until February. The composition of the foreign market this year hasn't changed. The big difference with last year is that we have already obtained a certificate for organic ginger. Now we can start to sell organic ginger, which is a good opportunity to expand the market."
