As Brazil's central region citrus season begins to end later this month, Atemoya Thompson is a good option until September says Paulo Farias, commercial director and owner of Log America Trade.

“August is the last month of harvests and export availability of dekopon tangerines. We export other fruits from Brazil like papayas and mangoes. Every year we prepare and export according to how the season is going. This year it was difficult because we had a lot of rain. We export papayas all year, we stopped those export for now because the quality from the fields was not what we would like. This is part of our quality control, we try hard to manage it very well. We will resume exports as soon as the quality improves and is up to the required standard,” notes Farias.
Log America exports fruit to Canada, Europe, Middle East and Asia. “In 2022 we had an expectation but it was not achieved until then. After the Covid pandemic and now the situation of war in Russia and Ukraine all over world is being affected and the consequences are global. In most countries we have long-term customers, and we understand that everyone is going through a more sensitive situation. Prices are not what they were last year, the Brazilian cost of production was increased with the fuel and agriculture incomes prices grow,” explains Farias.

Farias notes that some producers whom they represent are looking for the best technological alternatives using biologic products and with eyes for environmental sustainability production.
As founder of Log America, Farias is an agronomist with his own farm based in the middle of Brazil in the state of Goiás, near the capital of Brasilia. “We developed a programme for medium and small growers in the export business. We started some programs to develop and we export the fruit from the growers with their own brand through our operation. We give some value back to them by developing packaging and we offer an automated system that give all support for growers according to each market. It takes about 3 years to make a good internationalisation programme and we have validated."
