Recently, Xianfeng Fruit Co., Ltd. launched a project in the Qingpu area (Greater Hongqiao International Hub) in Shanghai, which has attracted a lot of limelight. It is understood that the project plans to build an international fresh fruit import center with a total construction area of about 60,000 square meters. The total budget is 500 million yuan. As part of the planning, an international conference and exhibition center for fresh produce, a headquarters office (Big Data Information Sharing Center), a national e-commerce center, a smart cold chain storage (R&D) national promotion center, a talent training center, and an intelligent manufacturing center of dried fruits will be built.

After completion, an international symbiosis system integrating sources, logistics, and outlets backed by Xianfeng Fruit’s ecological platform will be built to advance the economic and trade cooperation of global fruit partners and offer a platform for the communication and trading in the premium fruit industry and a meeting place for high-quality fresh produce suppliers and talents in China.

Xianfeng chose this site to build an internationally leading fruit import and export distribution center and a second headquarters of the group. Founded in 1997, Xianfeng Fruit is one of the earliest fruit companies in China to develop the entire fruit industry chain. So far, the company has conducted in-depth strategic cooperation with more than 300 high-quality fruit growers around the world and completed the initial asset distribution overseas and global supply channel development. They are also actively carrying out the development of high-quality agricultural resources, investment, and fruit import and export overseas. It is reported that fresh-keeping and processing plants for popular fruit categories such as bananas and cherries will also be built on the site.

China is located in the northern hemisphere. Every year, from October to May of the following year, there are fewer fruit varieties on the market. According to the "China Food and Nutrition Development Program", the annual per capita fruit consumption of Chinese consumers is on the rise. In addition, since the outbreak of the pandemic, the consumer demand for fruits is also increasing. Consumers are not only interested in common fruits for their nutritional values but are also interested in a variety of high-quality fruits. However, the high cost of transportation due to fruits being not standardized and perishable, makes it more difficult for many consumers to try a variety of affordable fruits. Therefore, the building of cold chain logistics and the transformation of digital technology seems particularly important.

Different from high tech industries, the fruit industry has a low level of digitalization, the average age of people in the industry is relatively high, and the technology used is not up to date. Therefore, in addition to meeting consumers' needs for nutrition and taste, Xianfeng Fruit is also actively implementing its rural revitalization strategy in hopes of helping fruit growers achieve stable income growth and create wealthy rural homes. For this reason, a few years ago, Xianfeng Fruit proposed internally an initiative to use digital transformation to help the industry improve quality and efficiency, which has seen initial results. It is understood that 80% of Xianfeng’s business is now conducted online. At the same time, 100% of the supervision work is completed online, and the overall operational management efficiency has increased by 30% compared with last year. The building of WMS (Warehouse Management System) is complete, forming the reverse supply chain model of “sourcing decided by sales and sales decided by sourcing”, which will greatly reduce fruit loss.

Shanghai is an international city with a global outlook and insists on opening to the world. Qingpu (Greater Hongqiao International Hub) is an important area for Shanghai to build a business and service-oriented national logistics hub. After the completion of the project, Xianfeng's goal of integrating and consolidating the industry, advancing the in-depth integration with the Internet, artificial intelligence, 5G, and other technologies can be reached, and this project will become a benchmark for the innovation of the Chinese fruit industry and work to provide high-quality fruits from all over the world for Chinese consumers.
