The market price of Chinese garlic was on the rise prior to the Chinese Spring festival [12 February, 2021], and began to fall afterwards. In the last two weeks the market price stabilized. The current export price of Chinese garlic dropped by one third compared to this time last year. The reasons for this development have to do with the storage volume and the retail channels. The new garlic season in Yunnan has barely had any impact on the Chinese market.

There were rumors in the Chinese garlic market about the impact of weather conditions on the production volume earlier this year. Many people thought that the cold weather would greatly reduce the production volume in the new season. They expected the price to reach a high point later in the season. That is why buyers continued to purchase garlic from production areas, creating a buying craze.
"These conditions have now completely disappeared. The poor weather conditions did not have a huge impact on the production volume. New garlic will soon enter the market. The product quality seems to be quite good." This is according to Annie Chen, Sales Manager at Jining Fenduni Foodstuff Co., Ltd.

When asked about current conditions in the transport sector and its impact on garlic export, Annie Chen replied, "the shipping cost very slowly began to drop after Chinese Spring Festival, which is certainly beneficial for garlic export, and at the same time the shortage of shipping containers in Asia is gradually being resolved. The current bottleneck is in Europe where there is still a serious shortage of shipping containers."

"We are still able to deliver our garlic on time to our destination markets. However, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect overseas markets, although conditions are much better than in 2020. Every segment of the export process continues according to schedule," said Ms. Annie Chen.
