CargoPlast LLC and its business partners rely on large boxes for rent

"Our business model is a win-win situation for everyone involved"

Salem-based company CargoPlast LLC is firmly established in the sales of large boxes and plastic containers for agricultural purposes. Even in today's times of crisis, its management wants to continue to support its clientele - such as producers of all kinds of fruit and vegetables. Together with a well-known cucumber processor in southern Germany, the company has developed a new business model for renting out large boxes. However, the same model would also be suitable for other large customers in the industry.

Right: More than 2,000 large boxes are already in circulation.

The project was already created at the beginning of the year: "Our partners do not buy the large boxes from us, but rent them. Over a certain period of time - in this case six years - a total of over 2,000 boxes will be put into circulation," explains sales manager Andreas Goslar. This rental agreement offers the partner multiple benefits.

"Firstly, the customer's liquidity is maintained, which is not unimportant, particularly in these times of Corona. Because, if the crates had had to be bought all at once, there would have been a high six-figure investment amount."

Managing Director Robert Reck-Heinrich at the expoSE 2019

Win-win situation
In contrast to the sale of the large boxes, rented crates remain the property of CargoPlast. Goslar: "So they are not on the grower's farm when they are not needed and can be used as required." The new model is also particularly advantageous for the supplier himself. This is because it is no longer necessary to supply the individual producer, instead the distribution of the crates is left to the contractual partner. "In the end, the model is therefore a win-win situation for all parties involved."

More contractual partners sought
With the new rental business, CargoPlast not only focuses on a specific target group, but the service is suitable for many areas of the fruit and vegetable industry, according to Robert Reck-Heinrich, managing director at the company. "We could imagine further contractual partners in the processing industry, but we are also open to other areas. We offer a broadly diversified selection of large boxes and folding containers and would have a suitable solution for every situation."
