The Dutch company, Eco-containerwash, has brought an automated container cleaner onto the market. It can clean containers faster, safer, and more sustainably. Marine Systems developed it. "Several years ago, a container depot asked if we could automate container cleaning. There was no machine for that," says Guus van Hecke, Marine Systems' commercial/technical manager. "That request spurred us on. We did development and extensive testing for a few years. And now we can introduce this container cleaner."
"Containers are often still cleaned using high-pressure hoses and detergent. That process is often not always safe or good for the health of those cleaning the containers. Our patented container cleaner consists of a retractable arm with brushes attached. It fits into the container or trailer. It then sprays these clean and brushes the dirt away. The water and waste end up, outside, in a drain chute. The entire process takes two to four minutes. Traditional cleaning often takes longer. Our container cleaner uses significantly less water and detergent too."
Remote help
The Eco-containerwash's whole cleaning process is automated. "It's actually very easy," explains Van Heck. "The operator opens the container or trailer doors. And with the press of a button, the washing process begins. The entire process is automated and monitored. The operator can, therefore, do other things. All the while, following the washing process on a tablet or phone. The operator's notified if there's a malfunction. If the operator can't solve the problem, Marine Systems can give remote support. We can, therefore, quickly help the company. Our service includes machine maintenance."
From reefers to refrigerated trailers
"The system can clean the inside of a wide range of containers. Think of reefers, dry boxes, open toppers, and refrigerated trailers. It adapts to the container size. The Eco-containerwash has various washing settings. It can also just brush, without washing. The program depends on how dirty the container or trailer is. It's also just as easy to use a different detergent per level. These substances can then be used more effectively. The containers can be cleaned both on the chassis and the ground."

"The system not only cleans containers and trailers. It keeps track of all the data too. How much water and detergent is used, but also how long each washing cycle took. This information offers a source of knowledge. The organization can use this to work more effectively. The Eco-containerwash is easy to transport too. The machine easily fits into a container. With an arranged infrastructure, the machine can, therefore, be used in multiple places," concludes Guus.
