Andrea Matsusaka, Huaral Fruit Export SAC:

In 2025, Peruvian avocado exports to Japan increased by more than 75 percent

Avocado has become the most important crop for Huaral Fruit Export SAC. During its first season, the company exported a total of 50 containers, with Japan accounting for 40% of this volume. This market stands out because it accepts a wide range of sizes, allowing for better fruit utilization and making it a desirable destination.

"We exported the Hass variety to different markets, supporting the distribution of all sizes. This strategy aimed to maximize fruit use and provide growers with a viable option. At the start of the season, shipments were sent not only to Japan but also to China, Spain, and the Netherlands. Mid-season, we expanded our exports to Morocco. Green-skinned avocados were mainly sent to the Netherlands," said Andrea Matsusaka, the company's commercial manager.

According to Matsusaka, demand from the Japanese market is steadily growing. "So far in 2025, Peru's exports have increased by over 75% compared to the previous year, and this year we are approaching the volume Mexico sends to this market."

"The Peruvian avocado is rich, has a good texture, and is well accepted by the palate of the Japanese and other Asian countries, highlighting a significant change in the supply structure. Furthermore, this market has expanded its window of interest, creating new production opportunities also in our country's highlands," Andrea noted.

The company expects to export 200 containers of avocado in 2026, with 80 already confirmed exclusively for Japan. This amount is more than double last season's figures.

Shipments to markets like Japan and other Asian countries require firm, traceable, and uniform fruit. "The greatest challenge has been to find strategic partners in the field capable of guaranteeing adequate handling," she stressed.

"Soon we will also launch our citrus campaign, starting with Satsuma, Primosole, W. Murcott, Malvacea, and Honey Murcott mandarins. We will also introduce products like Tahiti limes and mangoes throughout the year. Just like the avocado campaign, this new season is expected to bring significant growth for our company," she concluded.
