Growy Singapore has entered provisional liquidation, marking the end of operations at its 8,000 square meter vertical farm near Changi Airport, less than a year after its official launch in November 2024. According to a statutory declaration filed by director Ramasamy Chockalingam on October 28, the company "cannot by reason of its liabilities continue its business."
The declaration, made in Chennai and published in Singapore's Government Gazette on November 4, formally placed the company in provisional liquidation under the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018. Three provisional liquidators from KPMG were appointed the same day.
Growy's Singapore venture had been announced with strong government support as part of the Singapore Food Agency's 30×30 Express Grant, aimed at raising the city-state's local food production to 30 percent by 2030. The farm was officially opened in mid-November 2024 by Senior Minister of State Koh Poh Koon, who described it as a key step in advancing high-tech agriculture.

Refocusing on scalable Dutch innovation
In a company statement shared with Vertical Farm Daily, Growy said the decision followed "extensive efforts to attract local investment and strategic partners," adding that "the path to sustainable profitability has proven beyond reach."
Growy acquired the Singapore facility from Kalera International in 2023, after the U.S.-based vertical farming company entered bankruptcy proceedings and divested global assets. "Even though it was one of the most advanced farms in the region, we struggled with high costs and inefficiency," Growy said. "We have invested significant time, energy, and resources into its operations and are deeply grateful for the dedication and hard work of our local team."
The company emphasized that its proprietary system, developed in Amsterdam, is now operating at scale in the Netherlands and is designed for lower CAPEX, higher automation, and improved energy efficiency. "The experience gained in Singapore has provided essential lessons about the strengths and limitations of different vertical farming systems."
