It is widely known by now that Washington State is expecting a significant cherry crop this season. A warm and dry spring allowed for strong pollination and setting conditions. "Our production volume will be up about 30 percent," says Brian Traum, Director of Sales and Marketing with Auvil Fruit Company, bringing cherries to market under the Gee Whiz brand. In addition to favorable growing conditions, new acreage further adds to the volume this season. "We're blessed with new trees coming online."

Exports
Despite the increase in supply, most Gee Whiz cherries are spoken for at this point. "However, we do have some opportunities for customers seeking to fill gaps in the summer." All cherries are grown in Orondo, which is located in the Columbia River Valley in Washington. "The cherries grown in this fertile area are of exceptional quality and as a result most of our cherries are exported," commented Traum. A smaller share stays in the domestic market and is offered to retailers across the U.S.
While Washington and British Columbia forecast above-average supply this season, California production was substantially down, and a decrease is reported from Europe as well. "With global supply projected to show a decrease, demand is strong, and Gee Whiz cherries are positioned for a healthy summer."
