"We achieved an improvement in grape firmness and brix consistency"

The Egyptian table grape season starts in May with early varieties. According to Abdelkader Habony, the season promises to be a successful one. "Growers have been able to take advantage of the market situation, combining adaptation to consumer preferences with agricultural practices that guarantee early supply and good quality," he says.

According to Habony, the varietal choices of Egyptian growers this season are moving toward consumer preferences. He explains: "There was a multitude of cultivable varieties in Egypt. We have the advantage of an early season, whereas there aren't many grapes in the northern hemisphere. What we needed to focus on were varieties that would strike a balance between successful early production and consumer adoption. We realized consumers preferred seedless varieties with a firm feel and sweet taste above all."

The grower continues: "We have therefore focused on varieties such as Early Sweet, Superior, and Flame Seedless for the start of the season. We're happy to report that quality will live up to our customers' expectations this season. There have been complications due to climatic factors, but thanks to sophisticated farming operations, such as optimal irrigation and production in a controlled climate, we have achieved an improvement in yield and quality and, above all, grape firmness and brix consistency that consumers are looking for."

Later in the season, it will be the turn of the varieties that are already market champions, according to Habony. He says: "The late varieties are among the most sought-after on the market, especially Crimson Seedless. Growers also made a choice this season to focus on Red Globe, King Ruby, and Black Magic. Much of the late production takes place on reclaimed desert soils, resulting in grapes of enhanced strength, firmness, and sweet flavor."

The grower concludes: "Table grapes are undoubtedly one of the most important fruits of Egyptian origin, receiving priority attention from production to packaging and logistical support. At Habony Group, we have accumulated decades of experience in production and have built up a good reputation in the market thanks to our pursuit of the highest quality and our focus on long-term partnerships based on transparency and mutual success."
