Tangerines and blackberries were the most advertised fruits this week

This week, shelves were filled with everything shoppers needed for their celebrations. Tangerines and blackberries were the most advertised fruits this week, with Honeycrisp apples, pineapples, grapes, and avocados not far behind. Sweet potatoes and asparagus topped the vegetable list, but celery, broccoli, carrots, and Butternut squash were also popular items. Baking staples, meats, gift ideas, poinsettias, decorations, and party trays rounded out the holiday specials offered this week.

Total ad numbers this week were 309,590, a 10% increase from last week's total of 282,630. The total for the same week last year was 7% lower than for this year. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 148,789 (48% of all ads), onions and potatoes 32,269 (10%), vegetables 117,724 (38%), herbs 2,008, ornamentals 7,850 (3%), and hemp 2,958. The number of ads for organic produce was 35,334, 11% of total ads.

The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included seedless grapes (red at 32%, white at 19%) and apple juice (64 oz.) at 11%. Significant decreases for fruit included Honeycrisp apples (per lb.) at 16% and Navel oranges (4 lb. bag) at 10%. The only change in price for potatoes and onions this week was a 10% decrease for yellow potatoes (5 lb. bag).

Significant increases in price for vegetables this week included only broccoli crowns at 22%. Significant decreases included Butternut squash at 15% and sweet potatoes (per lb.) at 10%.
