Representatives of large supermarket chains in North America toured from December 11 to 16 blueberry, stone fruit, cherry, and table grape production areas and packings facilities in Chile, in a visit organized by professionals of the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association (CFFA) of North America, ProChile, and Asoex.
The visitors were received by Ivan Marambio, the president of ASOEX, Ignacio Caballero, the marketing director of ASOEX, representatives of the blueberry, cherry, and table grape committees, and representatives of the exporting companies that they visited.
"The United States is the main destination market for our fresh fruits, accounting for just over 30% of all Chilean fresh fruit shipments. Thus, reactivating these kinds of visits after the Covid pandemic is very important. It allows us to continue strengthening good relations with representatives of a market with which we have history and have developed bilateral trade in fruits for many years," stated the president of ASOEX, Ivan Marambio.
"We believe that showing the whole process of our fruit, from the fields to when it reaches the table of American consumers, is very important. It is a unique possibility to showcase the efforts made by the sector to comply with quality standards and import protocols by using the highest technology and taking care of the environment and workers."
In turn, Karen Brux, CFFA North American Marketing Director, commented: “Retail is a strategic partner for our fresh fruits in the United States. We work with the retail sector generating various actions to encourage the consumption of our fruits and promote Chilean origin as an important supplier in the counter-season. We regularly organize these tours to show them how the fruit that they offer to their customers is produced and exported, but the best thing about them is that they can see the environment and the people who work in this industry and then communicate it to their customers."
