The first Latin American company to implement the AgroPreven-19 protocol is from Costa Rica

Nicoverde, the pineapple company located in Pital de San Carlos, has become the first agribusiness in Latin America to receive approval for the implementation and certification of the AgroPreven-19, a protocol to fight the pandemic in the agricultural food sector that was designed by the Kiwa BCS-Spain Certifying Agency in alliance with the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The manager of Kiwa BCS-Costa Rica, Humberto Gonzalez, said that the AgroPreven-19 protocol "gives the agricultural food sector, which has had a high demanded because of the current social needs, a standard of action that allows it to continue operating with greater guarantees."

This protocol covers 9 specific areas: organizational structure and responsibilities, a contingency plan, a health surveillance plan, a cleaning and disinfection plan, training and education strategies for workers, updating the food safety system, monitoring subcontractors, process control in facilities, and collection and handling of the product in the field.

"The certification has multiple advantages, such as being able to verify the work systems by contrasting them with the most recognized scopes, and offering guarantees to customers, employees, suppliers, and the different administrations," Gonzalez stated.

In addition to implementing the Kiwa-BCS AgroPreven Protocol, Nicoverde equipped the main work areas with ozone sterilization equipment, one of the most effective ways to disinfect the work areas. This equipment and its operation are certified and endorsed by the Biocide Regulation of the European Union.
