Vietnam can now export mangoes to the United States, a demanding market where it already exports pitahaya, rambutan, lychee, longan and caimito.
The Department of Plant Protection (DPV) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam announced that the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service of the United States (APHIS) had authorized them to export mangoes to that market, in an official act held in the country's capital.
According to representatives of the DPV, the institution applied for a license to export that fruit to the United States in 2009.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Le Quoc Doanh, said the Vietnamese mango complied with the high quality, hygiene, and food safety demands of the North American market thanks to the great effort of Vietnamese farmers, and the technical assistance of workers of the DPV and sectoral companies.
Sales of Vietnamese mangoes to the United States will help reinforce the country's agricultural product quality, prestige, and brand worldwide.
Le Quoc Doanh also stressed the need for the parties involved to continue implementing the required production process to increase productivity and to continue complying with the regulations of demanding import markets.
According to the official, the planting, processing and packaging facilities for fresh mangoes from Vietnam for export to the United States should receive management and traceability codes from the DPV and APHIS.
