Spain: Lleida-based company enters South African market

The Lleida-based company Biovert, specialised in vegetable nutrition, has entered the South African market with a first order of 17 tonnes of its products, which will be distributed to farmers or stores specialised in yield and crop quality improvement.

As reported by the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Catalonian Government, Biovert's internationalisation project has had the support of ACCIÓ through the Foreign Office of Trade and Investment in Johannesburg.

Biovert, with headquarters in Corbins and 40 employees, currently makes 70% of its turnover from exports, which are worth 9 million Euro, and this year it is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The company manufactures products to improve the yield and quality of crops with a technology based on the use of bio-stimulants, fertilizers, soil and water conditioners, as well as products that provide nutrients or improve crop resistance.

According to its manager for Africa, Juan Giménez, South Africa is a country with a lot of potential, as it has a powerful agricultural sector, with many hectares devoted to a wide range of crops.

Biovert's goal is to export ten containers each year and increase its sales by between 20 and 25% over the next five years.

The company is already present in markets in North Africa, such as Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia, although it hopes to expand its presence in this continent.
