Italfrutta Di Manno introduces new company brand

"2017 was an important year for us as, after thirty years of activity, we launched a new brand using our family name (Di Manno). It will be used to commercialise a wide variety of fruit both in Italy and abroad."

"Our main product is kiwis, with over 1,500 tons of our own production, 700 of which are exported abroad. Another 5,500 tons are collected from our partner producers so we can provide continuous supplies," explains Daniele di Manno, sales manager for Italfrutta di Manno Srl.

The company is a leader in the commercialisation of a wide range of products including plums, pineapples, bananas, grapes, high-quality vegetables from Sicily, apples, pears, oranges, lemons, pomelos, grapefruits, watermelons, cherries, melons, peaches, nectarines, apricots.

The company is managed by the three founders, brothers Primo, Secondo and Salvatore Di Manno, and their children: a team of young people that use their father's experience and that supported significant improvements to processes and methods. All this also thanks to R&D for innovative strategies and the adoption of state-of-the-art tools.

The commercialisation of Italian kiwis starts in October with the early Early Green variety, then in mid-November it's the turn of Hayward, which usually lasts until May.

"Due to the frost in April - precisely when plants were blossoming - productions are 25-30% lower. Grades are lower than average compared to 2016, weighing 80/90 grams compared to the 100 of last year," explains Daniele.

"Prices are higher, as was to be expected, with an average of €1.50/kg. Despite the fact that ours is top quality products, quotations are also affected by competition from Greece, Turkey and Iran."

"We are confident in the fact that we will meet demands and have produce available until the end of May despite the lower volumes available. Then it will be the turn of imported fruit from Chile and Argentina. We also commercialise bananas and pineapples from Costa Rica throughout the year."

Over the years, the company has stood out for the quality of the products supplied and the efficiency of its service. It currently employs 60 people with a turnover that grows at a double-digit rate and has reached €58 million.

The company holds the GlobalGAP (Good Agricultural Practice) certification and uses state-of-the-art machinery and equipment that enable the stocking, processing and storage in extremely functional suitable areas. The facilities (8000 sq m for commercialisation and 6000 sq m for processing) are equipped with special refrigerated units to have enough goods ready to be delivered.

"The recently-introduced kiwi processing and packaging line is a modern system that enables us to meet the multiple and unique demands of our clients. Freshness, high-quality and traceability are guaranteed by a network of local producers, meaning we can collect and distribute the products in 12-24 hours."

"10% of the produce goes to the domestic market, while the rest is destined to Europe, Jordan, Egypt, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Argentina, Brazil".

One of the future objectives is to increase the kiwi and plum productions, which currently reach 10 thousand tons a year.
