Salvi celebrates 125th anniversary

On 24th September 2016, Salvi  celebrated its 125th anniversary. The company was established by Luigi Salvi in Bergamo in 1891. At the time, it collected fruit from producers and took it to the local fresh produce market.

The second reason to celebrate was the fact that in 1966, i.e. 50 years ago, Luigi Salvi decided to leave Bergamo and move to Ferrara, a city that at the time was the hub of Italian fruit cultivation. The move enabled Salvi to also start cultivating its own produce.

The company has since grown into what we know today - it can handle 133 thousand tons of fruit with 5 processing and storing facilities with a total capacity of 60 thousand tons. It gathers together 700 producers and has a turnover of €133 million.

64 of every 100 kg are shipped to 60 countries worldwide, including new destinations such as "Uzbekistan and South-East Asia. Markets like China and Japan would allow us to access millions of new consumers."

Over the years, Salvi has developed partnerships with leading companies, for example for the production of Pink Lady, as well as Origine PO for the commercialisation of pears and with Zespri for kiwis.

And this is just for the production and commercialisation department, and we must not forget that Salvi Vivai was also established. This company commercialises 1.7 million trees (apple, pear and cherry trees) as well as 120 million strawberry plants every year. It can also count on two facilities abroad, one in France and one in Poland. The latter produces 18 million strawberry plants every year for the Greek, Spanish and southern Italian markets. 85% of Salvi Vivai production is shipped abroad.

The history of Salvi logos. The first one was the acronym of Luigi Salvi, while the current "green man" was deposited in 1976.

During the celebrations, the company rewarded those producers, carriers and employees who have been collaborating with Salvi for over 30 years, as well as commending Marco and Luigi Salvi for their commitment.
