US (CA): Monsanto expands vegetable seed research headquarters

Monsanto has completed a $31 million expansion at its vegetable seed research headquarters in Woodland, Calif.

The expansion included a 90,000-square-foot laboratory and office building and makes the Woodland location the company's primary site for the molecular breeding of vegetable seeds, according to Monsanto's Beyond the Rows blog.

Mark Oppenhuizen, Woodland's strategy and operations lead, said the expansion would allow Monsanto to, "maintain a close working relationship with our customers in an area which has become a hub for seed science and which produces more than half of all vegetables grown in the US"

The Woodland site employs 250 full-time workers and 150 contract seasonal employees.
