"Italy: Dried tomato images "stolen" by a Tunisian company"

Giorgio Agosta from the Agriblea di Agosta Giorgio & C. company, located in Ispica (Sicily), wishes to report through FreshPlaza the unauthorised use of company images by the Tunisian company Agrosiliana

"The first image shows a fork with dried tomatoes on it. The Tunisian company slightly changed the size, added some shading and cancelled our Agriblea logo. The second one shows our dried tomatoes in the sun. You can see our hill in the background and even the town of Pachino!"

One of the two "stolen" images. Above: the original one from Agriblea; below: the unauthorised use by Agrisiliana.

"It is a shameful 'cut and paste'. We have been producing sundried tomatoes for more than 10 years. What can we say? That not only our competitors cannot compete in terms of quality, but that they cannot even promote what they produce themselves!"

The second image used without authorisation by the Tunisian company.

Giorgio Agosta, who everybody calls Gino, has a very peculiar story: he left his job as a security guard in prison and decided to pursue a dream - that of promoting the genuine and traditional Sicilian flavour around the world through a niche product i.e. cherry sundried tomatoes. He manages this also thanks to the help and the love of his family and to the precise and punctual work of his co-workers.

Agriblea is proud to produce a traditional agrifood product, recognised by the Sicily Region with the 27/07/2003 Decree and published on the Official Journal no. 141 of 29/08/2003 - the "Ciappa ri pummaroru", that is to say the half sundried oval or round tomatoes, on top of the cherry sundried tomatoes mentioned earlier.

This is why every year the hill of contrada Timponelli in Ispica is covered in a deep red colour from June until August and the air is filled with a strong and persistent aroma of dried tomatoes.

Agriblea should be launching the virtual tour of the company, in collaboration with Google. "This way, our clients will be able to visit our company from home and see our production of sundried tomatoes."
