Netherlands: Kloosterboer expands at Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte

The Kloosterboer Group has recently started building a second cold storage facility at Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. This expansion will enlarge the existing facility with approximately 5,000 temperature controlled square metres. Once completed, the total capacity will amount to 72,000 pallet spaces enabling Kloosterboer to deal with more and varied consignments within the port of Rotterdam.

With 28 new dock shelters, there is ample capacity for cross-docking, which is significant with the current growth of the container market following the expansion of Maasvlakte 2. Kloosterboer will also create a veterinary inspection point within the new facilities. In addition to this, the inclusion of cooling cells will also enable the handling and storage of fresh fruit. The layout of the new premises with 8 cool and freeze cells makes it more suitable for the transit market and for clients with smaller sized batches.

Kloosterboer’s expansion is being built sustainably and will include LED lighting, recycled rain water and inflatable dock shelters. The option of also incorporating solar panels is still being investigated. Kloosterboer is aiming towards the finished project achieving the BREEAM certificate; the most important and recognised sustainability mark of approval for buildings worldwide.

The expected delivery date for the new facilities is June 2013
