Six years ago Holland Gaas entered the market with an insect wire netting system, which could be made a part of the glasshouse roof. Originally insect netting was mainly offered in cassettes. These cassettes were separately attached to the air frames and the roof of the glasshouse. The big advantage of the new product from Holland Gaas is the ease of fitting and the speed combined with the advantage of material, which results in a more appealing price. No loose fixing material is being used. The result of this innovation is a considerable increase in the sale of the netting and the company gained momentum as a result.
Marcel Schulte, co-owner of Holland Gaas, sees many opportunities for his company. "Our company is in full development. We give a lot of attention to innovation:
Shortly we will be on the market with a fire retarding version of the netting. The last tests are being done at TNO. We are slightly running ahead, but I can only imagine that insurance companies will put down their requirements and/or decrease their premiums for users of the fire retarding version.
We also supply professional netting cages. This is mainly of interest to seed companies and improvers with limited testing areas, but also to monitoring and scouting systems for bumble bees.
There is a large number of glasshouses with hardened glass in air windows. We have now developed clasping rubbers, so that a folding system can still be used and loss of light and ventilation as mush as possible remain limited
We also offer glass fibre pen guides. Especially in areas with extreme weather conditions, such as mistral winds in France, we can guarantee that the netting will not drop outside, when the windows are being closed. The glass fibre pen guides ensure that the netting remains inside and properly fitted.
The demand for organic products increases and with that the interest in organic cultivation without means of protection. To keep insects out wire netting is therefore the solution. We know that the white fly, Crisp lice and Tuta Absoluta may cause enormous damage to the plants. "We offer a clean solution for this continually increasing problem" Marcel says.
Marcel Schulte: "Because prices of products have been under pressure for a long time combined with high energy prices the investment climate is not good. Because of the electricity and the entrepreneurial attitude of many glasshouse builders new markets are found abroad. When a netting system is required we can with an integrated netting system in the windows offer a professional and durable solution for each situation in every region."
"For some time now we also offer wire as a bag system. With pulleys the bags are pulled inside. As far as quality is concerned this is a completely different level ventilation advantages and passing through of light are much better with folding systems) but in some situations this system is sufficient" as per Marcel.
Holland Gaas produce 8 to 9 standard sizes of mesh. On offer are mesh sizes from 0,15x0,35 mm to 1x3 mm. By building up stock in various stages of the production process at different locations service is almost immediate. As air windows differ in sizes required rubber and as there are different mesh sizes each air window is manufactured exactly to size. "As you can see we are really developing," Marcel ends.
