Omar Papi

React to the crisis by searching for clients in Uzbekistan and central Asia

The current crisis in Ukraine has not stopped the economy of central Asian countries nor the fairs that had already been planned. Omar Papi, manager at Futura, is in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) at Uzfood.

"Uzfood, which is held in the Tashkent fair district (Uzbekistan), opened its doors on March 29, 2022. The start was very promising, as we witnessed the willingness of clients to go back to some sort of normality."

"The clients who visit the fair are mainly private companies producing fruit. Uzbekistan is a big producer of fruit and vegetables. The opportunity we are trying to make operators understand is that, thanks to our technologies, they can export their products all over central Asia."

As regards the current global situation, Papi says that "the Covid situation in Uzbekistan is rather under control: masks are not mandatory any more, so there is some sort of 'normality' from this point of view. With regards to the war, Uzbekistan is substantially a neutral country and the topic is not discussed very much by the local media. Of course, however, people are not very optimistic as regards the near future."

Most visitors are local and are, with a few exceptions, mainly from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

"Our presence here is in line with the strategy we adopted for the second trimester of the year, i.e. the possibility of having clients from all over the world purchase our grading lines at 'controlled' prices. We decided not to transfer onto our clients all those raw material and service increases that we are enduring. We believe this temporary policy could be of great help and support all our clients."

"Our presence here was a given, since our Futura Central Asia branch is located in Tashkent."

"We would like to take the chance to invite our clients and collaborators to visit our stand at Fruit Logistica in Berlin next week. Finally, after two years, we will get the chance to 'shake hands' once again."
