After more than a year of online meetings, webinars and working from home, a long-awaited moment and true BRUcargo tradition was finally there: the Summer BBQ, organized by Air Cargo Belgium. With close to 1000 attendees representing almost 200 companies and organizations in the airfreight industry, this edition turned out to be an enormous success.
The Colonial Palace in Tervuren was the idyllic scene for a delicious barbecue buffet. The event was made complete by the many laughs, happy reunions and a DJ that kept the party going. It was a big joy for Air Cargo Belgium to host the first physical event of large scale in the industry since the start of the pandemic.
Respecting the applicable Covid guidelines and measures, guests were requested to present a Covid Safe Ticket or to undergo an onsite Antigen test, offered by Mensura.
In his opening speech, Chairman David Bellon thanked the entire air cargo community for their exemplary role during the pandemic showing the true value of air cargo globally, even saving lives to a certain point. He also acknowledged this was only thanks to the support and dedication of the Air Cargo Belgium team, its executive committee and Board members and all the members of the organization. It showed the real value of a community organization, in times of unprecedented crisis.
He stated however that the pandemic changed our lives forever, whereby air cargo professionals needed to ask themselves if day to day changes to our behaviours (the use of digital applications in private life) could not be replicated in the air cargo processes, hinting clearly on the digitization strategy Air Cargo Belgium promotes.
Geert Keirens, director at Air Cargo Belgium, states that strong communities and cooperation between all stakeholders in the Air Cargo Industry have been instrumental and vital in de worldwide distribution of the Covid-19 vaccines. Lessons learned from the pandemic will accelerate further collaboration to stimulate innovation and digitization to the benefit of our industry but also the wellbeing of all mankind. Bringing together all Air Cargo enthusiasts at this BBQ is a fine way to celebrate the end of the pandemic and toasting on an bright future.
A true BRUcargo tradition was resumed and out through the reactions of the attendees one could feel it was really appreciated. In November, Air Cargo Belgium will be back with another event. Together with Brussels Airport, they will host the Innovation Lab.
