According to the Association of Exporters (ADEX) of Peru, the area devoted to growing avocados will grow by an estimated 25% in the next five years, reaching 40,000 hectares in 2021, compared to 32,000 hectares registered in 2018.
This increase in area is related to the increase in exports and the opening of new markets in Asia for the commercialization of avocados, such as South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia or the Philippines, as well as in South America, specifically Mexico.
The work of the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) has been fundamental to achieve entry into these new countries.
According to data published by the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, between January and April of this year avocado exports amounted to more than $ 141,870,000, i.e. 9% more than the $ 130,641,000 obtained in the same period of 2018.
In the first four months of the year, the main destination markets for Peruvian avocados were the Netherlands, with exports worth 72,945,000 dollars, -1.8% and a 51.4% share; Spain, with 17.3% of the total, the United Kingdom, China, United States, Russia, Hong Kong, Chile, and Germany.
The leading exporting companies were Camet Trading SAC, Plantaciones del Sol SAC, ASR Trading SAC, Incavo SAC, Alcoaxarquia Peru SAC, Consorcio de Frutas Lambayeque SAC, Asica Farms SAC, Agricola Cerro Prieto SA, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta SA, and Eurofresh Peru SAC, among others.
